After the redemption of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red are hard at work on a sequel which will use Unreal Engine 5.

CD Projekt Red spent a lot of money and devoted a lot of time to fixing the many problems of Cyberpunk 2077, as well as delivering possibly one of the best DLC expansions ever made.

Now the developer is stepping away from the title and moving on to its next projects, but rest assured it has learnt from its mistakes and will now be investing more time and resources into the quality control of its games like The Witcher 4.

While the next instalment in The Witcher series is high on the list of CD Projekt Red’s priorities, Cyberpunk 2077 2, as it’s currently being called, is also in the works.

We know hardly anything about the title, and we likely won’t for a long time, as the developer has made it clear its release date is a long way off. However, what we do know is it’ll strive to produce graphical fidelity like we’ve never seen before.

How will it do this? Unreal Engine 5 of course, and it’s apparently working closely with Epic Games to make it happen. The transition has apparently been difficult, as CD Projekt Red has used the same game engine since The Witcher 2.

Lead quest designer Pawel Sasko said: “There's a lot of work to be done when it comes to the toolset specifically and so on … Because there are so many I would say specific things that our RED engine was tailored for.”

They went on to say: “It's a huge studio - they have an incredible amount of engineers, very seasoned engineers. So it's something that we can also learn from."

Sasko described the transition to Unreal Engine 5 as less of a challenge, and “more as an opportunity.”

Cyberpunk 2077 2 has no release window as of yet, but it’s safe to say we won’t be hearing much about it for quite a long time.
