'Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order' Modders Are Already Making Huge Changes

'Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order' Modders Are Already Making Huge Changes

Mod's law.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a pretty damn good Star Wars game. Some would say it's a really bloody great Star Wars game. Others still might argue that it is, in fact, a bad Star Wars game. I do not agree with those people, for the record.

Whatever your take on EA and Respawn's recently-released single-player Star Wars action adventure, I think we can all agree that the game's protagonist is a bit of a bland biscuit. I certainly don't hate Cameron Monaghan's Cal Kestis, bit I do fear and mistrust anyone with such a large collection of outer space ponchos. It's just weird. Who needs that many ponchos? Who needs even one poncho?

My own unresolved issues with ponchos aside, there are plenty of areas where Jedi: Fallen Order could be improved. That, of course, is why we have modders. For as long as there have been video games, there have been creative and passionate fans that bring their own adjustments, tweaks, and - sometimes - fixes to games.

The latest Star Wars adventure is no different. The game has been out for less than a month, and the modding community has already put together a huge selection of visual, rendering, and display mods that address a range of issues and fan complaints. Most of them, you probably won't be shocked to learn, have to do with Cal's appearance.

PC Gamer reports that there's a hefty chunk of mods over on Nexusmods right now. There are mods that make Cal look a little older and grizzled, mods that turn him into the Star Wars Expanded Universes' Ben Skywalker, and even mods that make him... less ginger. Okay, so that last one seems fairly discriminatory to me, to be honest.

There's also the usual selection of mods that address lighting, reshades, outfits, FX, and that sort of thing. If someone wants to make me a mod where I get to burn and shred all of Cal's ponchos with my lightsaber, that'd be awesome. I'll pay. Probably. We'll see.

In our own review of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, it was argued that patchy performance issues and a fairly dull story drag the game down considerably. A shame, for the first single player Star Wars game in what feels like forever.

"Bogged down by technical shortcomings as it is, and featuring a few questionable design decisions, it's impossible to consider Fallen Order a Star Wars classic, up there with Knights of the Old Republic or Rogue Squadron," wrote Mike Diver.

"If you were to strip it of its license, there's every good chance it wouldn't get a second look from players experienced with any of the games it's drawing on for inspiration. It's a marked improvement on EA's Battlefront releases of late, but given this is a Respawn game, you can be forgiven for expecting more."

At least we'll always have mods, eh?
