Phasmophobia, the new horror game where the ghosts talk back, is getting a number of cool updates which will liven up the afterlife.

For those of you in the dark (not the spooky dark, but the knowledge dark) about Phasmophobia, one to four players enter a spooky locale, which ranges from a high school, a farm, an asylum, and more. Through online co-op play, they work together to identify the ghost haunting this place. A range of equipment is at their disposal, like EMF readers, thermometers and night vision cameras, and a spirit box that lets the players communicate with the spectre. And, they'll talk back.

Each ghost is randomly generated, with a unique identity consisting of gender, name, age, physical model, and even shyness. They all have varying strengths and weaknesses, for example, the poltergeist will throw a range of objects at the players to decrease their sanity. On the other hand, if it's only electronic items and light fixtures that are being affected by the ghost, it's likely to be a jinn. The demon will hunt players relentlessly, whereas the revenant is the fastest ghost, but will slow to a crawl if players hide from it.

The terrifying experience is a major success on Twitch, with more than 10 million hours watched over the past seven days. Developer Kinetic Games shows that it's not slowing down any time soon, with a host of updates that will improve the gameplay and add new scares. You can see all of these on its official public Trello board, which is divided into "known bugs," "in progress," "to-do," and "ideas needed" columns.

Overall, it appears that the ghosts will be getting cleverer, and will refuse to answer on the spirit box unless players ask a direct question, like "What is your name?" The ghosts will also wander into different rooms more frequently, and it will return to the last location it saw a player instead of travelling aimlessly. Furthermore, more additions for the virtual reality version of the game are on the cards, and Kinetic Games is exploring the possibility of dead players helping out those who remain.

Last but not least, the official Phasmophobia Discord is hosting an art contest, as announced on the game's subreddit. Four game keys and a unique Discord role are the prize for the winner, with the contest ending on October 28th, and winners announced on October 31st.Featured Image Credit: Kinetic Games
