No Man's Sky enormous free update adds 'trillions' of new planets

Massive update!

No Man’s Sky has had yet another free update, and it’s absolutely massive.

If there’s one game out there that is constantly delivering high-quality free updates, it’s No Man’s Sky.

In the nine years after its rather controversial launch, No Man’s Sky has been delivering a constant stream of content in the form of free updates.

Take a look at the new update in action below.

These updates are always quite substantial too, introducing brand new systems and building on existing gameplay mechanics.

It’s got to the point where the game is unrecognisable from its 2016 self. Hello Games has given us so many free patches, that I almost wish I could give them some money for it.

Now, the Worlds Part II update has arrived and seems to have blown all expectations away.

“With Worlds Part II, we added billions of new star systems and trillions of new planets to the universe,” writes Hello Games founder Sean Murray in a post on the PlayStation Blog.

“Going to these new systems travellers will notice new terrain, new biomes, new flora, and new fauna. There’s a new terrain system that I’ve been working on for a while now.

“There are huge mountains to climb, oceans that are kilometres deep to discover, and caverns and canyons at a scale that wasn’t possible before.”

It sounds like seasoned No Man’s Sky players are going to have a lot of new things to discover here. Murray cites new Gas Giant planets that can be explored, posing new challenges and hazards for players to experience.

Hello Games has also improved the water gameplay too, with new features for the Submarine as well as expansions to the fishing and deep sea diving systems.

For those of you who enjoyed the story of No Man’s Sky, Murray then goes on to explain this update brings more narrative opportunities too.

“This update introduces a large strand of new quests and lore connecting up some of the storylines and mysteries we have been building to for a long time. Those who relish unearthing the collective knowledge of the No Man’s Sky universe have a lot to dig into.”
