New Scooby Doo movie confirms Velma is gay

The new Trick Or Treat Scooby-Doo! halloween special finally confirms Velma to be gay.

If there’s one cartoon I watched more so than any other during my childhood, it would have to be Scooby Doo. Simple Plan’s theme tune for What’s New, Scooby-Doo? lives in my mind rent free but do you know what is a real banger? ‘It’s Terror Time Again’ by Skycycle from Scooby-Doo On Zombie Island. Real ones know.

Anyway, enough fangirling from me. The past few weeks are shaping up to be quite the time for Scooby Doo related revelations. Shaggy actor Matthew Lillard recently confirmed that Shaggy isn’t in fact a stoner. Whether you believe that or not is up to you. The latest Scooby Doo halloween special also confirms a major fact about Velma.

Check out the trailer below for Trick Or Treat Scooby-Doo!

Velma’s sexual-orientation has been questioned by fans over the years, with many presuming the character to be gay. Well, that’s now finally canon as in the Trick Or Treat Scooby-Doo! special, our girl Velma bags herself a girlfriend in the form of costume designer Coco Diablo. Check out the moment that Velma lays eyes on Coco below.

If you grew up watching the live-action Scooby Doo films like me, you may recall that Velma had a boyfriend in James Gunn’s Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. It turns out, Gunn actually intended to make Velma lesbian in that film but revealed in a now-deleted tweet (Thanks Gizmodo), that the studio “just kept watering” down the script until Velma eventually ended up with a boyfriend.

Unsurprisingly, fans are pretty thrilled with the reveal. Twitter user MythicalLlamaXO wrote, “The way I could actually cry about this like her finally being canon in the movies not just in Mystery Incorporated show makes me so unbelievably happy,” while kayochins added, “Velma getting her lesbian debut after five decades thank you.”
