The DeLorean EV Is A Stunning New Take On The Iconic Car

The Back to the Future trilogy is, if you’ll excuse the pun, absolutely timeless. It really doesn’t matter how old you are or when you experienced these movies for the first time, they just ooze with humour and charm - it’s genuinely difficult to find anyone who doesn’t like at the very least the first film, and for good reason.

The trilogy has also had a massive impact on pop culture, most notably with its popularisation of the DeLorean. The 1980s sports car, outside of the movies, was notorious for its lack of power, poor build quality, and generally just a less than satisfactory driving experience (thanks, Wikipedia), but thanks to it being Doc Brown’s time machine of choice, it continues to have a large following to this day.

Before we get into it, check out this guy's incredible real-life recreation of the DeLorean time machine below.

With that in mind, there’s no doubt that there’s going to be a number of petrolheads and nerds alike very excited about the announcement of the brand new DeLorean EV. As reported by IGN, this new all-electric model was first teased back in February, and brings back the “Medusa” sedan concept that the original DeLorean Motor Company started development on before going bankrupt in 1982.

Much like the classic DMC DeLorean we all know and love, this new model includes two electrically powered gullwing doors, which will expose all four seats of the vehicle. The original concept for the Medusa actually saw the car have four gullwing doors, but hey, this version certainly feels more nostalgic.

As for the technical stuff, the EV targets a 100kWh battery, which is estimated to give you at least 300 miles of range, and a top speed of 155mph. Most importantly, it can go from 0-88mph in 4.35 seconds, making for far easier voyages through time.

Production is set to begin in the next couple of years, with the car expected to cost somewhere around $175,000. Please note that the time travel function isn’t included in the base model.
