Perhaps now more than ever the worlds of video games and tabletop gaming come together in a match made in heaven and this new Dying Light RPG might be a prime example of that wonderful marriage.

Developed by Techland, the original Dying Light was released for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2015. In many ways, it was the spiritual successor to 2011’s Dead Island, a game also developed by Techland before it moved on to Dying Light. Since that time the Dying Light series has grown to be bigger and arguably better in more ways than one, and in 2022 were were treated to its sequel, Dying Light 2: Stay Human.

In our review of Dying Light 2: Stay Human, we said: “Techland’s long-awaited zombie RPG mostly delivers the goods in style, providing an expansive - if not entirely original - open-world playground that’s filled with epic action, pleasingly brutal combat, and some difficult choices. The end of the world has never been so entertaining.”

Now, the post-apocalyptic zombie franchise has expanded into the world of tabletop RPGs with Dying Light: The Board Game created by Glass Cannon Unplugged in collaboration with Techland, and its Kickstarter campaign is now live.

The board game adaptation will be playable for one to four players and will incorporate the Dying Light day and night cycle mechanics in which zombies become more powerful when night falls. However, if you dare venture out into the night amongst the rabid hordes, your rewards will be greater. That’s assuming that you survive the night.

Dying Light: The Board Game will also bring in parkour gameplay mechanics, a staple of this series. As you explore the city and complete missions, your character will level up alongside your in-game achievements as with any good RPG. To make this game even more immersive for the player, not only is the board designed to replicate the streets of Dying Light but it will also come with 3D structures and of course, a whole host of miniatures.

Kickstarter backers can support the Dying Light: The Board Game campaign by choosing either the standard pledge or the deluxe pledge. The standard pledge will come with the core box and all stretch goals whereas the deluxe pledge comes with even more miniatures as well as the ‘Infected Miniatures' expansion.

If you want to back the Dying Light: The Board Game campaign, it ends in just over 20 days. If you don't have the cash to stump up now, you always have the option to back a pledge of just £1 and then when the pledge manager opens at a later date, you can change your order, which is something that I do often.

Dying Light: The Board Game intends to launch in June this year, that’s assuming it suffers no delays with its production.
