Netflix is losing a lot of subscribers right now, largely due to a number of factors well outside of the streaming giant's control.

The cost of living crisis and pulling out of Russia have extracted a heavy toll on Netflix, leading the company to record its biggest loss in nearly 10 years, announce tough new crackdowns on password sharing, and cancel several projects.

Earlier this month it emerged that Netflix had axed a number of high-profile animated projects, and the planned sequel to Will Smith's Bright 2. The Michael B. Jordan-produced superhero drama Raising Dion was also shown the door after just two seasons. Now, the streaming service has announced another show is to be axed before it can get a third season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Carell and John Malkovich's satirical sitcom Space Force will not be returning for season three.

Inspired by ex-president Donald Trump's belief that the so-called "Space Force" would be a successful new branch of the US military, the Netflix series centered around Steve Carrell's character and his attempts to make something credible out of the idea.

While the show's first season scored a very poor 39% on Rotten Tomatoes, reviews for season two suggest a much-improved show that ultimately struck the right balance between comedy and drama.

Unfortunately, it looks like we're never going to get to see how much better the show could've gotten. Space Force now joins a long line of Netflix original shows that will never get the chance to realise its full potential. However, given that THR adds Carrell was taking home around $1 million per episode, deciding to put an end to this one might've been among Netflix's easier decisions.
