Modern Warfare 2 tactical nuke is back, and fans are delighted

The latest Call of Duty title has brought back and overhauled Modern Warfare 2's tactical nuke.

A happy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II day to all who celebrate. In case you’ve been sleeping under a rock, Infinity Ward’s highly-anticipated title has finally been released out into the world today. Already, fans are hailing the campaign as “incredible,” with one particularly photorealistic level leaving many stunned.

After the Gotham Knights 30fps debacle, you’ll be thrilled to know that MWII can play at 120fps on the PlayStation 5. It’s also been confirmed that MWII is getting a huge day one patch. As if that all wasn’t exciting enough, fans are now delighted to find out that the tactical nuke is back.

Check out Modern Warfare II’s new third-person mode in action during the recent beta below.

The tactical nuke was first introduced back in 2009’s Modern Warfare 2. If players gained a 25 killstreak, they’d be rewarded with the tactical nuke which would allow them to end the game, giving their team an automatic win. It’s been seen in CoD games since, but it’s certainly by no means a franchise staple.

As reported by ComicBook, Twitter user lyashiobana has confirmed that the tactical nuke is back but there are a couple of changes. The new iteration is actually called a Mass Guided Bomb (MGB) and you’ll need to get 30 kills without using other killstreaks in one life. Once you’ve gained the MGB, players will need to pull out a tablet and enter a password. Check out the feature in action below.

For now, it’s likely that those who are unlocking the MGB are doing so against bots. It’s going to be a much taller order to unlock this killstreak reward against fellow actual players, but I’m sure the CoD fanbase will take that challenge in their stride.
