Marvel's Wolverine isn't coming to PS5 this year after all

Marvel's Wolverine isn't coming to PS5 this year after all

A new video posted by PlayStation seemingly confirms that Marvel's Wolverine won't be a 2023 release, despite recent rumours.

Pack it up, folks, it looks like Marvel’s Wolverine might not be releasing for at least another year.

Since its initial announcement back in 2021, barely any official information has been shared about the upcoming PS5 exclusive Marvel’s Wolverine. Insomniac Games (the studio behind the phenomenal Marvel’s Spider-Man, its sequel, and Miles Morales) is working on it, so you know it’s going to be good, but that’s basically all we have to go on. Presumably, we can expect to see another action-adventure title like the iconic web-slinging games we all know and love, but who knows? No one’s said that it’s not a Wolverine dating sim.

Take a look at the teaser trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine below.

Although the game hasn’t been given a release window by Sony, last year, in a document submitted to the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Microsoft listed Marvel’s Wolverine as part of PlayStation’s 2023 lineup, seemingly confirming that it was planned to hit consoles sometime this year. As PlayStation LifeStyle reports, however, this may no longer be the case.

Yesterday (16 January), PlayStation posted a video showcasing the PS4 and PS5 games set to release this year, and sadly, Wolverine wasn’t among them. While the video certainly can’t be taken as a definitive list of everything hitting Sony’s consoles in 2023, you’d think that this one would have been included if it was really happening - it’s certainly one of the most anticipated titles on the horizon.

Perhaps the devs have simply decided to let Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have a bit more room to breathe. The sequel to 2018’s Spidey adventure is set to swing onto PS5 this autumn, so the end is finally in sight for that. Venom’s in-game voice actor recently teased how action-packed the game is going to be, not that we needed any more hyping up for it.

Things might be all quiet on the Wolverine front, but the title is certainly in good hands. We can be pretty confident that it’ll be worth the wait, no matter how long it takes.
