I’ve been a huge fan of the Ultimate line-up of Marvel’s comics since the recent start, with The Maker creating a new spin-off universe that overhauls a wealth of heroes and villains.

It’s been a breath of fresh air, and the direction Marvel is taking, by changing up the familiar characters drastically, it feels like a revolution.

This new Iron Man isn't what you're used to in the MCU

One of the characters who has had a big change is Iron Man, now called Iron Lad.

It’s still Tony Stark inside the armour, but now he’s a teenage boy learning his place in society and world politics as the son of a billionaire.

Spider-Nerd on Twitter has given a brilliant breakdown on the new character, and his development over the various Ultimate storylines.

Fans, so far, have loved the new adventures of this iteration of Iron Man, with many of them saying it reminds them of the best moments from Stark’s history.

“He reminds me of Armored Adventures Tony a lot,” said one Twitter user.

Another Marvel fan jumps in with the comment, “Bros been in a coma for 3 issues now, and he still has a felt presence throughout everything.”

This younger hero as his work cut out for him, with villains left, right, and centre, and his fellow heroes untrusting of one so young in charge of devastating technology.

This only deepens his character, making him more endearing.

“Iron Lad definitely reminds me of a teenager or young adult; naive, but doing their best to learn and change the world,” says a fan who appreciates the new direction.

“I've never been an Iron Man (or lad) fan, but the pacing and variety in this book makes him a perfect lead to juggle these stories,” comments another user.

You can read along with Tony’s adventures across the Ultimates line-up where he appears with other brilliant revamps of heroes.
