Marvel announces The Last Days Of Moon Knight

Is the death of Moon Knight really upon us?

Could Marvel be about to close the chapter on one of its most popular and badass characters? Say it ain't so!

The Moon Knight character has been part of Marvel’s comic franchise since his inception nearly 50 years ago in 1975's Werewolf by Night, issue 32. Since that time, this ruthless anti-hero has been a firm favourite with fans, many of whom have eagerly awaited his arrival in the MCU.

That wish was recently granted in March 2022 when the live-action Moon Knight TV series arrived on Disney+, starring Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector, one of the Moon Knight alter-egos.

At this time, fans are hoping for information on season two of Moon Knight, let alone whether he will appear in the MCU on cinema screens. Until that time may or may not arrive, the anti-hero still lives on in the world of comic books. Yet, as reported by Comicbook.com, the demise of Moon Knight may be upon us.

This week, Marvel officially announced the title of an upcoming Moon Knight comic issue via a preview of the cover image with the title ‘The Last Days of Moon Knight’. As the title of the 28th issue suggests, the character might be killed off.

However, as we all know, when a character “dies” in any form of Marvel media, they often never stay dead forever. The three-part Moon Knight story looks to be the beginning of a new chapter, that’s at least according to the comic’s writer, Jed MacKay.

“Almost all the pieces are now on the board- on one side, Moon Knight and his allies in the Midnight Mission, and on the other, the Black Spectre, his creatures, and his plan for New York,” explained MacKay. “We've been building towards this confrontation since #19, and starting with Moon Knight #28, Moon Knight and the Black Spectre go to war. It's not just a question of victory, but survival itself. The Midnight Mission is already cloaked in the black of mourning…”

So there you have it, all good things must come to an end, but in the Marvel universe, that end often opens up a new beginning. The Last Days of Moon Knight #28 will be available on 18 October 2023.
