A man beats his neighbour to death with Pokémon cards after allegedly being called a ‘f***ing nonce’.

As reported by Dexerto (via ITV), in August 2022, Andrew Hague aged 31 from Sheffield in the UK was seen attacking Simon Wilkinson aged 50 in front of witnesses. Reportedly, Hague was triggered during an argument with his neighbour.

Hague, who has a diagnosed psychotic disorder, was allegedly not on his prescribed medication but instead was using cannabis as a substitute. The Sheffield court heard that Hauge attacked his neighbour when he was allegedly called a paedophile.

Neighbours who witnessed the crime taking place, then heard Hague shouting: “You called me a f****** nonce. Come out here and fight like a man.” Hauge struck Wilkinson with a bag of five tins of Pokémon cards.

Motionless on the floor, Hauge continued to attack his victim and not only admitted to police that he “got carried away”, but also “murdered him [Wilkinson] in cold blood.” Hauge also admitted that he tried to end his victim's life as Wilkinson was already suffering from catastrophic injuries sustained by Hauge, but continued to attack him with the bag of tin Pokémon cards.

Judge Sarah Wright sentenced Hauge to a minimum of 17 years in prison with a recommendation that he be readmitted to Rampton secure hospital where his mental illness would be treated and taken into consideration.

Judge Wright also said that Hague’s apology is believed to be an “act of mercy” in his “deluded state”. However, she added that his mental illness was not severe enough to claim a defence of diminished responsibility or insanity.

What’s more, Judge Wright also warned about the dangers of self-medicating in light of this tragic crime. “This case is a stark reminder of the dangers of cannabis use, particularly with someone with such a complex mental health history as yours,” she said.
