Ken Block, a professional rally driver and YouTuber, sadly passed away this week after being involved in a snowmobile accident in Wasatch County, Utah. He was 55 years old.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed by Hoonigan Racing Division on Instagram: “It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today,” they wrote. “Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed.”

As LADbible reports, Block shared one final story to Instagram not long before he died. Captioning one snowy image from inside a vehicle, he wrote: “Sketchy and snowy drive with some great snowboard entertainment”. He also posted two more images of other vehicles engulfed in a thick coating of snow.

It’s thought that Block died when his snowmobile overturned while riding up a steep slope, leading to it falling on top of him. A statement from Utah's Wasatch County’s Sheriff's Office (via Reuters) said: “He was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.”

Some GTA Online players have been paying tribute to Block by recreating his Ford Mustang in-game, as well as sharing their condolences online. “I found out through this post here. F**k. He was my driving idol and the reason I got into cars and motorsports. Because of him, rally became my favourite motorsport. RIP,” Reddit user Extyrsys wrote.

Although Block was perhaps best known for his action sports skills (having competed in motocross, snowboarding and skateboarding) as well as his Gymkhana series on YouTube, he also had a big impact on the world of gaming. He appeared in Need for Speed (2015) as the style icon, and in several Dirt games: Colin McRae: Dirt 2, Dirt 3, and Dirt: Showdown.

Our thoughts go out to Block’s family and friends at this difficult time - may he rest in peace.
