Idris Elba Says That Knuckles Won’t Be Sexy In ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 2’

Elba has said he's not going for a "sexy" Knuckles voice.

There are a few names when you think of sexy men in Hollywood. You think of Henry Cavill, Chris Hemsworth, Evans, and Pine - perhaps sprinkle in a Tom Holland, Hiddleston and a Benedict Cumberbatch. And of course, you have the one and only Idris Elba. If you’ve watched the actor in his role as Luther especially, you’ll get what I mean when I say he’s a gorgeous, gorgeous man. But perhaps some fans’ hopes have been dashed that he’ll be his usual flirtatious self in his upcoming role as Knuckles, as he has said that he’s not going to be “sexy”.

In an interview with ScreenRant, the actor has said that his interpretation of Knuckles the echidna isn’t going to channel his usual charming persona. When the outlet got the opportunity to talk to the actor it asked if his usual charismatic British charm would be present in the performance. And sadly, he couldn’t say much on the matter apart from one detail.

Idris responded: “Honestly, I cannot say. Contractually, I cannot say anything. But I wouldn't say he was sexy. I don't think I'm going for that. That's for sure.” And honestly, it might be better that Knuckles doesn’t sound too alluring - it’s a kids film after all.

But as my colleague noted when talking about this story - what if Idris Elba can’t turn the sexy off. He may not be intending to sound cool and suave but with a voice like his, it’s going to be hard not to hear through it to the man we know and love from all sorts of film and TV. Well until we get to see and hear Sonic’s pal, we’re not going to know exactly what he means by saying Knuckles’ voice won’t be “sexy”. I am, however, a little more invested in seeing the trailer now just to find out.
