Hogwarts Legacy Black Lake DLC unites fans

Hogwarts Legacy players agree that the underdeveloped Black Lake is crying out for DLC.

Hogwarts Legacy players are in agreement that the game is crying out for a Black Lake expansion, and it’s an excellent suggestion.

Truth be told, I’m surprised that Avalanche Software hasn’t yet announced DLC or a sequel for Hogwarts Legacy. It was undeniably 2023’s biggest commercial success, becoming the year’s best-selling game worldwide and the best-selling single-player game in the UK since the release of Grand Theft Auto V. I can understand why nothing was announced in the tail end of 2023. It would’ve detracted from the release of the long-delayed Nintendo Switch port of the game. With all versions out in the world now though, I expect the studio will be itching to fill fans in on the franchise’s future.

Did you spot these two warring suits of armour inside Hogwarts castle?

There are many iconic locations fans are itching to visit, from Diagon Alley to the Ministry of Magic. Players agree though that while Hogwarts castle itself was beautifully realised, the Black Lake left a lot to be desired. Reddit user TaleofDreams wrote, “I am hoping the Black Lake is explorable in the sequel. There’s so much potential to do some missions at the very least down there. Merpeople, aquatic creatures, the Giant Squid, etc.”

If you’ve played the game, you’ll know that the Black Lake is largely a non-event. You can dive down in predetermined spots to grab some loot but there’s nothing really to ‘explore’ in the traditional sense. Given that we know a whole wealth of magical creatures reside here, it would be fun to see devs explore this area further.

“I’ll say they added swimming and mentions of mermaids for a reason. Would be a shame if they just do nothing with that,” said Heizerux, while Livael23 added, “I would love for Nerida to become a more important character in the sequel, and to take her to see the merpeople.” Nerida is, of course, the student who sends you on the Mer-ky Depths side quest.

Whether a Black Lake DLC is on the cards or not, hopefully 2023 will bring news for Hogwarts Legacy fans.
