A Hogwarts Legacy sequel may be on the cards, but with rumours that it could be a live-service title, fans are left feeling concerned.
Earlier this year saw it leak that the Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. title - and the best-selling game of 2023 - Hogwarts Legacy, would supposedly be receiving a DLC, an extended version, and eventually, a sequel.

However, not long after this leak, the development and publishing team seemingly cancelled several of those plans, with insiders revealing that the DLC and extended edition had been canned.

That being said, Hogwarts Legacy 2 is still on the cards.
Although a sequel to the RPG inspired by Harry Potter will still be quite a few years away from release, fans are still excited to see where Avalanche Software will take us next.
Well, they would be if there were not rumours of it potentially being a live-service title.
For those who don’t know, a live-service game is a video game designed to be supported and updated over a long period of time but more specifically, this usually means that any updates will come alongside possible subscription fees or microtransactions.

Live-service games are notoriously hit-or-miss so it makes sense that fans are feeling unsure about Hogwarts Legacy 2 taking this approach.
So unsure it seems, that some fans have started up a petition to stop Hogwarts Legacy 2 from being live-service and it has already amassed over 14,000 signatures.
“Live-services are a plague on the industry that is hated by many players and developers who don't want their games ruined by greedy executives who want to extract as much money as possible,” the petition description reads.
Additionally, fans have taken to r/HarryPotterGame to express their thoughts in more detail.

“It still blows my mind that they want to double down on live-service. What a waste of some really good IPs,” user JerbearCuddles wrote.
“I just don't understand what is going on at WB and what their thought process is, beyond the basic 'lets just make money' mindset. They could be making genuinely great and revolutionary games. Instead they just want to live-service everything and be run entirely on greed. Hogwarts Legacy is such an amazing foundation for Harry Potter games, but nope.”
It still remains to be seen if Hogwarts Legacy 2 will go down the live-service route but if it does, it may turn out to be a mistake in the long run.
