Last month, it was announced that a sequel to Joker is officially happening. Titled Joker: Folie á Deux, some rumours have suggested that the film could be a musical starring Lady Gaga, which is perhaps the last thing anyone would have expected and yet I’d love to see how that’d work.
Now though, as reported by Variety, a new official Spotify podcast show has been announced in partnership with D.C and Warner Bros., which will tell Harley Quinn’s origin story from her perspective. The show is named Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind, and will star Christina Ricci (The Addams Family, The Matrix Resurrections) as Harley.
Harley Quinn's origin story was also explored in Suicide Squad - take a look below.
The series will apparently introduce us to Harley as Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a talented psychologist with an unwell father, who she can’t afford the medical treatment for. After meeting unique criminal “Patient J”, she decides to tread a risky path by using her relationship with The Joker to get what she needs.

This isn’t the first narrative podcast show set in the D.C universe - only a couple of months ago we saw the release of Batman Unburied, which offers quite a twist from the Gotham-based tales we’re used to. Starring Bruce Wayne as a forensic pathologist and The Riddler as one of Gotham’s top detectives, things are very different, but it clearly went down well, as it surged to the number one podcast spot in a number of countries around the world when it first came out.
Back to the new series at hand, though, Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind is being developed, written and directed by Eli Horowitz (producer of Homecoming), and will also star Billy Magnussen (No Time to Die) as The Joker, and Justin Hartley (This Is Us) as Bruce Wayne. No release date has been given just yet, so we’ll have to sit tight for now.
