GTA fans furious with Rockstar Games for shutting down fan-favourite project

Grand Theft Uh-oh

An extremely impressive mod that imported Grand Theft Auto IV’s map into Grand Theft Auto V has been shut down by Rockstar Games - and fans are not happy.

As revealed on the official Discord server by its developers last night, The Liberty City Preservation Project mod team has ceased development and removed the download links to the mod they’d previously posted online.

This is a direct result of the developers “speaking with Rockstar Games”, which more than implies that the decision was completely out of the team’s hands.

The mod received a lot of media attention after it went live back in December last year, mostly due to how impressive the project looked.

Of course, all of this media attention ultimately led to Rockstar Games and their parent company Take-Two catching wind of the project, which in turn led to its demise.

To say the GTA community is somewhat upset at the news is an understatement, as folks over on the r/GTAIV subreddit are really tearing into the developer following the news.

“Common Rockstar L,” commented user emeric1414, “I remember when their official website used to promote mods made by the players…”

When will Rockstar drop GTA VI's second trailer?

“As the years go by, honestly, the way I revered this company for making the games I love, slowly gets chipped away,” replied user tombunz.

“The treatment of employees. The milking of the cash cow of GTA Online. The attitude towards the modding community. Heck, even the borderline mockery of trailer two theories. Eventually you last long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

Unfortunately for the Liberty City Preservation Project team, this was bound to happen. Take-Two is extremely litigious when it comes to stuff like this, so their days were numbered as soon as the project was on their radar.

On the plus side, I’ve heard that if you know where to look… the download links to the mod are still floating around out there. I’m not gonna poke Take-Two by telling you where though.
