GTA 6 release month 'leaked' by Rockstar cleaner ages ago, and you probably missed it

Has it been staring us in the face all this time?

I hope you’re not expecting to hear anything about Grand Theft Auto VI any time soon; Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick recently explained why.

"We do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance, and we found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement on the one hand, and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation," he stated.

As a reminder, GTA VI is due to launch in fall / autumn of this year, so we’re talking between September and November.

Fair to say, many of us thought that a second trailer might have dropped by now, but if Zelnick’s comment is anything to go by, that’s likely not going to arrive until the summer.

The same can be said for the game’s release date.

It turns out though that GTA VI’s release month may have already previously leaked.

Here’s GTA VI’s one and only trailer.

It was in 2023 that this claim first surfaced, but all this time later, it’s actually looking like there might be some truth in it.

As originally reported by Metro, someone took to social media claiming to have worked at Rockstar as a cleaner for six months.

During their time at the company, they claim to have seen an advert that said ‘September 2025’.

They added that the advert had a GTA logo on it, but that they didn’t see anything else as computers had privacy filters and staff were told not to discuss active projects.

I’ll be honest, when you read the account on paper (or a screen, I suppose), it sounds a whole lot like nonsense.

It’s a bit like when your mate jokes, “Yeah my uncle at Nintendo told me.” Sure he did.

But then September doesn’t feel out of the question, so it’s hard to know what to believe.

“The map looked huge, saw it on a monitor briefly as I was walking past one of the devs, looked like there was like 2-3 big clusters of roads which I’m assuming were cities/towns,” read the now deleted post, as per Metro.

“I also saw some art for the game, with Jason and Lucia standing beside each other. Jason had a sawed-off, black bandana on, pointing a gun at store clerk. Lucia had a pistol, red bandana on, filling a duffel bag with liquor from behind the till,” they added.

Personally, I’d urge you to take this account with a major pinch of salt but I suppose time will tell us the truth.
