Talk around the release date for GTA VI has been going on basically since the initial hit of GTA V wore off, and it's been well over a decade since then.
As such, it's unsurprising that, as the 26 May, 2026 date that Rockstar has set finally approaches, the gathered masses are getting a little overexcited.
Over on Reddit, one GTA fan shared the genuinely exciting news that we're exactly 100 days away from the year of the game's release with the caption "We're officially 100 days to GTA 6 release year! Can't believe it's FINALLY happening", and that has been more than enough to reignite the excitement of the mob.
"Super hyped! This is the only game I have been craving for cause most games these days didn't really catch my attention or interest. We're gonna have so much fun with this masterpiece," one expectant fan said.

Others are literally expecting to see things they've never come across before in video games, with one saying, "This is the most expensive game ever made from one of the only studios in gaming to have an unlimited budget and development window. Even if they downgraded every system in the game, as long as it’s somewhat competent it will be something we haven’t seen before."
"When the delay happened, I was worrying that the rest of the year would drag on, but it's flown by; this is the most excited I can recall being for any video game," another added.
Others are feeling considerably less positive, believing that the currently scheduled release is unfortunately a pipe dream. "It will 100% be delayed. We will know the real release date when pre ordering becomes available. Those that remember GTA V know what I’m taking about," one said.
Another group of fans think it's time to stop making milestones out of thin air, with one saying, "I know right, like what kind of milestone is 100 days away from the year of release. OP is making a deal out of absolutely nothing."

Rockstar does have form for delaying their games, so we're not quite willing to believe that the 26 May is set in stone. That said, it's so exciting that I don't begrudge anybody marking any day between now and then as a milestone, if that's what they want to do.
If the hype now is anything to go by, just think what it's going to be like when May rolls around.
