The man in charge of delivering Grand Theft Auto VI has just dished some details regarding its release date, pricing strategy, and the expectations that the publisher behind the game believes it will meet.
When it comes to Grand Theft Auto VI, fans only really have two questions: how much is it gonna cost, and will Rockstar Games delay it again?
Both are relatively fair questions. GTA VI’s price has been hotly debated since the game was first announced, and Rockstar Games is a perfectionist to the point that several of its games have seen multiple delays.
Take-Two’s chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick recently sat down with CNBC to discuss all this and more, although his answers do leave a lot to be desired.

There’s a few GTA VI specific talking points that the CNBC hosts grilled Zelnick on, but unfortunately his comments regarding the release date were rather short.
When asked if he’s certain that it will meet its current release date, following its previous delay, Zelnick replied, “My level of conviction is very, very high, obviously."
However, his comments regarding how many members of the Rockstar Games team are working on GTA VI were a little juicer, as Zelnick stated that “Rockstar does have a lot of other things going on”, but that the new GTA is the developer’s “primary focus".
He also spoke about the “incredible release schedule” that Take-Two has in store, and how the publisher’s focus on “quality” will hopefully make them impervious to reduced consumer spending.

These comments echo Zelnick’s previous interview with Variety, in which he stated that an “announcement will come from Rockstar in due time” regarding GTA VI’s reported $80 price tag.
“As you know, the approach of the industry is to launch at a premium price, sometimes with special editions, and over time, typically to reduce the price to enhance the overall size of the market. We do the very same thing,” Zelnick told Variety.
“I think, probably more than most, we’re highly focused on making sure that the experience is great, not just because the game itself is great, but also because consumers have paid a fair price for it.”
Ultimately, Zelnick’s comments are mostly just corpo speak that dodges the actual questions, but I do find the bit about Rockstar Games working on “other things” pretty interesting at least.
