The new rumoured price for GTA VI will leave you floored, and you may have to get your GTA Online heist squad together to make some extra cash.

When the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series arrives, it will dominate social media, at least in our realm of video games. It’s also going to smash all sorts of sales records, and Rockstar Games knows it.

In recent months, there’s been a lot of talk about raising the price of video games. I know the case can be argued regarding inflation, however, production costs are mostly cheaper nowadays than they were decades ago, especially when considering mass digital distribution.

Many assumed that GTA VI would be the game to break the $80 barrier for a base launch title but it looks like the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive Mario Kart World has crossed that finish line first.

So now that Mario Kart World will launch at $80 (digitally), it will no doubt open the floodgates for publishers to do the same in what will likely become a new industry standard.

That being said, GTA VI is not an industry standard and it’s looking ever more likely that its launch price could exceed $100. With that in mind, as reported by Dexerto, an industry expert believes that some versions of GTA VI could cost more than an Xbox Series S.

Anurag Reddy of Analytics Insight claims that the Collector’s Edition could cost between $250 and $300, which puts it in the same ballpark as the Xbox console.

However, as dramatic as that sounds, it’s very common for Collector Editions to cost about that much. In that respect, this insight shouldn't come as much of a shock. I’d be more shocked if we were talking $400.

Of course, this is mere speculation at this point and we don't know for a fact whether Rockstar Games will release various versions of GTA VI but at the same time, it feels like a given.

The question that I want to ask is, if we were to get the inevitable GTA VI Collector’s Edition, can we have more than just a lockbox, bag and baseball cap, please?

No exact release date has been announced for Grand Theft Auto VI but it is currently scheduled to be released later this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
