An analyst claims that GTA VI should cost $200 because it will be the “last great game” before everything moves to AI development.
There’s no escaping AI nowadays; in fact, whether we’ve realised it or not, it’s been here for quite some time. It’s used in almost every aspect of digital life, whether it’s video games, TV and film, work, browsing social media, or more.
We’ve seen the rise of AI in the world of video games, particularly in creating artwork and assets, as well as coding. Whether you like it or not, or whether the thought of Skynet becoming a reality scares you, AI is here to stay.
As reported by IGN, industry analyst Ben Thompson told TBPN that Rockstar Games should charge more than the $100 it costs to buy GTA VI Ultimate Edition as it is too low, and it should be $200 instead.
The reason is that GTA VI is created by human “blood, sweat and tears,” rather than mostly AI, which should have warranted a much higher price. “Rockstar is charging way too little for this game," he said. "They should be charging like $200 for this game.”

“GTA VI is the last great game. It was mostly all made pre-AI. It is the pinnacle of triple-A craftsmanship,” he continued. “Years and years and years of blood, sweat, and tears. To the extent where you have the Twitter analysts counting cigarette butts outside Rockstar's offices to see how much crunch they are in right now.”

We’re not sure how many gamers would be willing to spend that much on a digital-only video game with DLC and locked content, but we can understand Thompson’s enthusiasm, at least. Sure, there might be a few willing to spend silly money on a digital-only game, but we’d be very surprised if gamers as a whole backed Thompson's statement.
The existing price of $100/£90 seems about right for the Ultimate Edition, as does $80/£70 for the standard edition. Either way, Rockstar Games looks set to make a ton of money and break all sorts of sales and playerbase records with GTA VI.
“Rockstar Games will release multiple versions of this game over the next 10 years, and people will buy it. It will be best played on PS6 and the new Xbox,” claimed Reddit user alec83, making a very valid point. After all, we’ve seen this pattern with GTA V since it originally launched in 2013.
“Those are rookie numbers. It’ll be $300 and split into multiple $100 purchases of different games," added TheNiamosDiscoBall.
“This is what happens when suits infiltrate our medium,” said RandomGuyOnDaNet90.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The inevitable PC port hasn't been announced yet.
