GTA 6 'map restrictions' leave fans divided

What could this mean?

Despite the fact that Grand Theft Auto VI has been in development for the better part of 10 years, there is still a lot we don’t yet know about the Rockstar title.

It has been well over a decade since Grand Theft Auto V was released and yet the Rockstar Games title remains as popular today as it was back in 2013.

Check out the official GTA VI trailer below!

With the studio being one of the best when it comes to jam-packing its titles full of content, Easter eggs, features, and of course, their online components, it is no wonder that we have such high hopes for its sequel.

Luckily, Grand Theft Auto VI is set to be released in fall 2025 and with just a few months to go, fans are speculating as to what the game could include.

However, with Rockstar having only released one official trailer so far, we remain in the dark when it comes to the finer details of GTA VI.

That being said, one fan thinks they have spotted an interesting detail on the game’s official cover art.

“Will GTA VI enforce early-game map restrictions?” the post by LuxrOfficial read over on r/GTA6.

The post comes alongside a close-up image of Lucia who just so happens to be sporting an electronic tag on her ankle.

As we know, wearing a tag will restrict how far you are able to travel, as well as only allowing you to be out in public during certain hours of the day.

As a result, fans have been debating whether or not this will lead to map restrictions at the start of GTA VI’s story.

“Lucia’s ankle monitor seems like an obvious way to limit early-game movement, but what about Jason?” the original poster continues.

“If he doesn’t have the same restriction, could he have more freedom to explore? As far as I know GTA V was the only title that allowed full exploration from the get go. Will they do this again or maybe go back to their roots?”

However, it seems as though user littlestevebrule has it figured out.

“I think we get a much longer prologue than GTA V's and similar to RDR2's in length, ending with both characters getting arrested after the gas station robbery,” they explained.

“Maybe the prison section is just some cutscenes or maybe we actually get a little gameplay inside. Jason and Lucia get released with ankle monitors that get taken off in chapter two. Feels Rockstar-ish to me.”

We have just a few months left until we find out if this is indeed something we see in the game.
