GTA 6 devs hope to 'exceed expectations' as Rockstar issues major update

Not the announcement we wanted

So the announcement is finally here, albeit not the announcement that we were all hoping for.

Earlier today saw Rockstar Games finally share some news on the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI.

In the meantime, check out the first official trailer for GTA VI below!

The announcement, which seemingly dropped out of nowhere, has revealed that the highly-anticipated title will be delayed from its previous fall 2025 launch window to 26 May, 2026.

Although this means that we are again expected to wait over a year for GTA VI to finally be in our hands, it does mean that we do now have an official, and more exact, release date.

“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team,” the announcement reads.

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

As you can expect, this news has broken the internet and fans were quick to take to the comments to share their thoughts on this delay.

“If you are gonna delay it, at least give us some screenshots. This marketing strategy may be working for you, but it is painful for the fans”, the GTA 6 Countdown account commented.

However, user Shiina was looking on the bright side.

“So many other games will finally announce their Q3/Q4 release dates now,” they shared.

A delay is always a bittersweet announcement as despite it meaning that we have to wait a bit longer, it also means that the game will not be rushed out in an unfinished state which will ultimately cause a lot more harm than good.

Well, now it is back to the countdown and hopefully we will see no further delays to GTA VI in the future.
