If you’re hyped for the release of GTA VI and are a big anime fan, then you might want to check out this upcoming open-world game.
Fans all over the world are excited for the release of the next entry in Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series, and I’m with them. Pretty much every game in the series has been a banger, setting the bar each time for what’s expected of the open-world action genre.
The first bar that Rockstar Games set was in 2001 with GTA III on the PlayStation 2, followed by GTA: Vice City, GTA: San Andreas, and the list goes on. However, the most successful game in the series to date is GTA V.
GTA V was originally released in 2013 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, before being ported to PC and every console generation since. Now, with the highly anticipated arrival of GTA VI, it would be fair to assume that another new bar and records will be set.
GTA Meets Anime
That being said, GTA VI isn't the only open-world action game to look forward to. It's the anime-inspired Varsapura, developed by miHoYo and published by HoYoverse. Oh, and it just so happens to be developed by the team that brought us the hugely successful, free-to-play RPG, Genshin Impact.

“Varsapura is an open-world role-playing video game set in a city characterised by supernatural phenomena,” reads the description of the game on Wiki. “The title Varsapura derives from Sanskrit, in which varsa means 'rain' and pura means 'city', collectively translating to ‘city of rain’.”
Following its announcement in November 2025, fans of Varsapura have appreciated some extended gameplay of the open-world RPG, which is basically a GTA anime game.

“All the models look great, so does the atmosphere,” said Reddit user vulexus.
“I can't believe they actually modelled a huge part of the game based on Singapore,” replied urquanlord88.
“Looking incredible,” declared avelineaurora.
“Looked kinda neat, but I absolutely hate character swapping,” exclaimed skyturnedred.

No release date has been announced for Varsapura, nor have the platforms. If I were to guess, it would probably be PC first before moving to consoles. It also hasn't been confirmed whether or not it will be a free-to-play game.
Hopefully, further information about Varsapura will be revealed in the coming months, because if the game is as fun as it looks in the trailer, it could be one of the surprise hits of 2026 or 2027.
