GTA 4 remaster has fans hyped following new Rockstar announcement

But would fans prefer a GTA 4 remaster, or a remake?

Following reports of Rockstar Games acquiring a brand new studio, fans are theorising about the possibility of a Grand Theft Auto IV remake - and their theories aren’t entirely unfounded.

In case you missed it, Rockstar Games just purchased video game developer Video Games Deluxe and renamed it "Rockstar Australia".

The studio had previously worked on Rockstar Games titles such as L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, prior to being purchased.

Video Games Deluxe mostly worked on Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition’s mobile ports, although they did take over from the original developers, Grove Street Games, to work on updates for the console version of the game, post-release.

Considering Video Game Deluxe’s work updating the game fixed a lot of the issues players had with the game at launch, many think that this implies that the newly named Rockstar Australia will be in charge of remastering past Rockstar Games titles.

We're still waiting on that second GTA VI trailer.

You can probably see where we’re going with this, as this has led players to assume that a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster, or even remake, could be on its way.

In a Twitter post from user @GTAVI_Countdown, players discussed their hopes for a potential remake of GTA IV.

“I am intrigued but at the same time a little skeptical considering how we all saw how the remastered trilogy went,” commented user @meganitro123, “but I guess if you give GTA IV some updated graphics and fixed some of the bugs then it could work out.”

“If they remastered GTA IV polished the code to get proper fps output... improved the LoD and shadows etc... that would be gorgeous,” replied user @D00M_SL4Y3R.

Personally, I can see it being possible down the line, but I highly doubt it’s something Rockstar Games is focused on at the moment.

It’s more likely to me that Rockstar Australia is going to be assigned to help with the impending release of Grand Theft Auto VI for now, but who knows what the future holds?
