Three is the magic number

I'm sure by now you've heard all about the many delights of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition. The long-awaited remastered collection of three classic PS2-era GTA games launched last month, and instantly taught an entire fanbase to be careful what they wish for.

The remasters of GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas are, to put it simply, not as good as they should be. Rockstar Games has already apologised and released updates that have gone some way towards fixing the games, of course, but the initial backlash has been enough to put most people off from forking out £50 for the three titles. Funny, that.

Take a look at some of the, um, best moments of the remasters below:

The good news is that there are a few low-risk ways to check out parts of the trilogy for yourself without having to spend a ton of money. GTA: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition, for example, is currently completely free for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. That means you can download it and check it out, and if you feel it's really as broken as other people have said it is, you've wasted nothing but your time.

PlayStation owners now have a similar option. As promised last month, GTA III - The Definitive Edition is available as a free standalone experience via the PlayStation Now subscription service. Obviously this is only free for those of you who already have a PS Now subscription, but it is entirely possible for anyone to set up a free trial of Now for up to seven days - plenty of time to tear through GTA III again, no?

GTA III -The Definitive Edition is available on PS Now right now, and will remain on the service until January 31, 2022. It's joined by Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, John Wick Hex, and Spitlings.
