Gotham Knights 'one-hour' free trial forces you to watch a 15 minute cutscene first

If you want to play Gotham Knights' free trial, you're going to have to spend a large portion of your time watching a cutscene.

I wouldn’t say Gotham Knights flew under the radar last year, but it didn’t make quite the impact many of us expected it would when the game was first announced. Still, if you’re someone who’s considered playing the title, now is the perfect time thanks to a handy free trial.

Gotham Knights landed a score of 68 on Metacritic, the same score that PS5 exclusive Forspoken managed to nab this week. It could be worse, but it’s hardly anything to celebrate. Gotham Knights’ biggest downfall was the whole 30fps debacle. In case you missed it, Gotham Knights cannot run at 60fps on the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. Instead, it’s locked at 30fps which should not be the case. To drum up some interest in this forgotten title, it’s now playable as a one-hour free trial on PlayStation Plus.

The only catch is you have to be a subscriber of PlayStation Plus’ premium tier. You may be thinking that an hour is a pretty good stretch of time to decide if you like something or not. The problem is, as reported by TheGamer, Gotham Knights opens with a 15-minute cutscene and you can’t skip it.

There are some people claiming it’s a 30-minute cutscene. Admittedly, it probably is that long before you start to make any real progress but you do get to move around at the 15-minute mark. It’s an odd choice though because the current free trial for The Last of Us Part I on PS Plus is two hours long. Gotham Knights should have the same offering.

If you don’t have PS Plus, you can check out our review of the game. GAMINGbible’s James wrote, “Gotham Knights is a first-rate Batman game despite not really featuring Batman at all. The combat takes the weight and satisfaction of a top-tier beat ‘em up title and inserts it into an open-world action RPG that is as enjoyable solo as it is in multiplayer,” rating the game an eight.
