Yesterday’s Academy Awards ran rather smoothly with no real upsets immediately surfacing.
I’ll admit, I didn’t stay up and watch the event from the UK. I was very sleepy after a busy weekend.
I did catch up on the headlines this morning though and outside of some mild outrage towards the premature cut-off of the winner’s speech for ‘Best Original Song’, awarded to ‘Golden’ from K-Pop Demon Hunters, it seemed to go okay.
Elsewhere, people were largely happy with the evening’s winners, with Jessie Buckley and Michael B Jordan walking away with ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Best Actor’, respectively.

Sean Penn and Amy Madigan secured the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ and ‘Best Supporting Actress’ wins, while One Battle After Another took home ‘Best Picture’ among its six total accolades.
I also have to shout out the excellent performance of ‘I Lied To You’ by the cast of Sinners, including vocals from star Miles Caton.
Watching ballerina Misty Copeland perform in the piece, metres away from actor Timothée Chalamet was quite poetic.
Chalamet previously criticised ballet and opera with those comments resurfacing in recent days, causing quite the controversy; Chalamet was ribbed by host Conan O’Brien earlier in the evening for the whole ordeal, which he took in good spirit.
Following the ceremony, however, it does appear as if one upset may have originally slipped by unnoticed.
The In Memoriam Segment Excluded David Keighley, Father of Geoff Keighley
The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest’s Geoff Keighley took to Twitter/X to criticise the fact that his late father was overlooked during the evening’s In Memoriam.
Geoff’s father, David Keighley, passed away in September of last year at the age of 77.
David was a pioneer of IMAX cinema, serving as IMAX’s first-ever chief quality officer.

Throughout his career, he oversaw post-production on over 500 IMAX films and was, in fact, working with longtime collaborator Christopher Nolan on The Odyssey prior to his passing.
“I remember so vividly working closely with David on many projects, starting over 25 years ago when I started exploring digital 3D for IMAX,” legendary director James Cameron said of his passing. “He was a strong ally and a true believer in creating the ultimate cinema experience for audiences around the world. He will be deeply missed.”
“Some people are irreplaceable. David Keighley is one of them. Cinema is mourning one of its most brilliant technical masters. My sincere condolences to his family.,” added Denis Villeneuve.
David Keighley was at the heart of the film industry - respected by his peers, many of whom are some of the greatest directors of all-time.
It was perhaps expected then that his name might surface during the In Memoriam section.
Noting the absence, Geoff took to social media to share his upset.
“So incredibly disappointed and heartbroken that the #Oscars and AMPAS chose not to include my father, David Keighley, and his immeasurable contributions to IMAX and cinema in the In Memoriam segment in the broadcast,” he wrote.
“I will never forget.”
Many have responded to Geoff’s tweet with gifs and images of game developer Josef Fares’ 2017 infamous “F**k the Oscars” outburst at The Game Awards.
“A man ahead of his time,” read one response.
“Sorry about this man. Heartless by the Oscars team,” another added.
David Keighley is featured on The Oscar’s In Memoriam web page, despite not appearing in the live broadcast.
