Make your peace with it.

It's been a rollercoaster ride these past few months, but I think we're going to have to make our peace with the fact that The Elder Scrolls VI is not coming to PlayStation 5.

Ever since Microsoft purchased Bethesda and all of its IPs, what feels like a few thousand years ago, the assumption has been that the in-development sequel to Skyrim would be Xbox-exclusive, or a timed one at the very least. It hasn't helped at all that Bethesda and Microsoft don't really seem to know yet and have gone back and forth on the topic a few times.

Speaking of Skyrim, feast your eyes on our comprehensive travel guide to the rocky region below!

Xbox boss Phil Spencer said soon after Microsoft acquired Bethesda last year that both companies would assess whether or not games should be exclusive on a "case-by-case" basis. A few months later, he (quite rightly) argued that The Elder Scrolls VI "didn't need" to release on PlayStation 5.

Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard recently waded back into the subject, although his comments once again strongly suggest PS5 owners will be going without next-gen Elder Scrolls action.

"Well, we're still...I will just say I want everybody to have the ability to play it in some fashion," Howard told The Telegraph in response to the inevitable question on whether or not the game would be coming to PlayStation. That's pretty much all he had to say. Not hugely encouraging, is it?

Between this and the fact that Microsoft recently announced Xbox Game Pass will soon be available on all TVs with an internet connection so that you won't need a console to play Xbox exclusives on day one, it's really not looking good for PlayStation 5 owners. Oh, and Starfield has been confirmed as an Xbox console exclusive, so... why exactly would The Elder Scrolls VI be any different? Answer: it won't be.

I know this isn't easy for some fans to accept, but Microsoft didn't pay $7.5 billion for Bethesda so that it could put its biggest franchise on its rival's console.
