'Star Wars: Republic Commando' Could Be Headed To Modern Consoles At Last

No one’s ever really gone.

Star Wars: Republic Commando, generally considered to be one of the best Star Wars games ever made (if not the best Star Wars game ever made), could be revived on a brand new console.

The leak arises from update data pertaining to Star Wars: Republic Commando that has been uploaded to Nintendo's servers. The entry has the same cover art as the original game, and names Aspyr to be the publisher. Aspyr has already brought a cluster of classic Star Wars games to the console, like Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, and Episode I: Racer. It tallies then to see Star Wars: Republic Commando join the collection, and fans are almost frothing with excitement for a remastered Star Wars: Republic Commando on the handheld platform. "Looks like I'm buying RC for the third time," said Reddit user Gontron1 on GamingLeaksAndRumours. "Awesome. This game is a masterpiece," added Mykey_Nich.

Released in 2005, it is a tactical first-person shooter for Xbox and PC from LucasArts. Set across Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, the story follows the Delta Squad, led by one elite clone commando (Boss) and composed of three clone commandos (Scorch, Fixer, and Sev). Placing players in the boots of Boss, the game spanned the extent of the Clone Wars where the squad is sent to assassinate targets, eliminate enemy forces, and secure objectives in aid of the Galactic Republic. LucasArts intended to develop a sequel to Star Wars: Republic Commando, following its rapturous reception upon its launch, but it was sadly cancelled very early on in the project's progression. There were, however, a series of novels that tied into the events of Star Wars: Republic Commando, continuing the characterisation of the Delta Squad and introducing other squads active at the same time.

What is interesting is that Aspyr's remasters of old Star Wars titles have come to the Switch and the PlayStation 4. So far, there's been nothing to suggest that Star Wars: Republic Commando is on its way to a second console... but, there's been nothing to suggest that it won't arrive on the PlayStation 4. Fans are also keen for the multiplayer modes to be booted up once again if the leak is real, which will be one more excellent addition to the "games to play in lockdown" pile. We'll keep you updated if we learn more.
