Another Ubisoft E3 show has come and gone, and Splinter Cell fans have once again been done dirty.
Fans of the stealth-action series haven't seen Sam Fisher star in his own game since 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist. That's eight years of disappointment, people. Every year a new game isn't announced, the fear we may never see him headline a new, single-player Splinter Cell grows. Sure, we got a brief look at the upcoming Splinter Cell anime headed to Netflix, and there were some pre-E3 rumours of a new first-person shooter that pits Sam Fisher against other Tom Clancy characters. No new game though. Never a new game.

It's not as if we haven't seen Sam Fisher at all of late; the character can often be found floating around other Ubisoft games in some kind of cameo capacity. That was fine and fun at first, but after nearly a decade it's getting harder to shake the feeling that this isn't the new normal for Fisher. At least as far as Rayman is concerned Ubisoft has the decency to pretend he doesn't exist. Constantly wheeling out Sam Fisher for other games while continuing not to announce a new Splinter Cell feels like a special kind of cruelty.
So every year the fans wish and hope and pray for a new game, and every year they're let down. As a Metroid fan, I know how they feel - but even Metroid is getting more love from Nintendo at the moment than Splinter Cell is getting from Ubisoft. That's really saying something.
As you can see from the some of the reactions to Ubisoft's E3 show, there are some pretty upset Splinter Cell stans out there.

Will we ever see a brand-new Splinter Cell game? I honestly don't know. I do feel fairly certain that I'll be back around this time next year writing another article about disappointed Splinter Cell fans though, so you guys had better strap in for a long wait and plenty more heartache.
