Sonic Mania is one of 2017's best video games, and easily the best Sonic The Hedgehog game in years. It's also completely free to download right now via the Epic Games Store, and I beg you to check it out if zoomed past you back in the day.

The best way to describe Sonic Mania? It's a game made by the fans for the fans - literally. SEGA enlisted megafan Christian Whitehead to lead development on the title, which is a gorgeous love letter to the classic 2D Sonic games of old, combining iconic characters and locations with plenty of new and unexpected twists.

Take a look at the game in action below to see if it's right for you:

Sonic Mania is currently 100% off via the Epic Games Store, so if you want to grab it for yourself just head here and claim it. Simple, right? As always, you won't have long to make this freebie yours - Sonic Mania will revert to its regular price of £14.99 on July 1 at 4pm BST, so much like Sonic himself, you gotta go fast.

"The ultimate celebration of past and future," reads the game's official description. "An all-new adventure full of unique bosses, rolling 2D landscapes, and fun classic gameplay. Sonic Mania brings retro fast-paced platforming into the future through pixel perfect 2D graphics running at 60FPS."

If you hadn't noticed all the celebrations, this week actually marks the 30th anniversary of Sonic. In other words, this really is the best time to educate yourself on one of his best adventures. Oh, and if you like what you play, you can head on over to read all about the other Sonic The Hedgehog games we here at GAMINGbible believe are absolutely essential, but that you've probably never heard of.
