'Resident Evil 2' Getting A Big 'Resi 3' Easter Egg In New Update

'Resident Evil 2' Getting A Big 'Resi 3' Easter Egg In New Update

Be my Valentine.

The Resident Evil 3 remake is real! Following months of rumours, requests, teases, and leaks, Capcom finally gave the people what they wanted during Sony's State of Play broadcast yesterday afternoon. A stunning reveal trailer gave us a solid look at Jill Valentine kicking zombie ass and taking zombie names, as well an all-too-brief glimpse of the terrifying Nemesis.

The mutant assassin that stalks Jill through the undead-infested streets of Raccoon City was a horrifying SOB in the 1999 original, and I've no doubt he'll be just as bad - if not worse - in the remake. Mr X reached new levels of terror in this year's Resident Evil 2 remake, after all, and Nemesis was always infinitely more relentless. I can't wait to scare myself silly, basically.

The good news is that we don't have anywhere near as long to wait for the Resident Evil 3 remake as we did for its predecessor. Capcom's latest remake is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC on April 3rd next year - mere months from now. The only real question at this point is how we're supposed to tide ourselves over until then.

My suggestion? Go and play Resident Evil 2 again, you fool. This year's remake was a stunning return to form for Capcom's survival horror franchise. A tense, gory gauntlet packed with horrors to face and secrets to uncover that's always worth replaying. If you needed more of a reason though, an incoming update for 2019 game is adding at least one more secret to find - and it offers a juicy Resident Evil 3 tease.

As spotted on Twitter and ResetEra, Steam has added a new achievement for the PC version of Resident Evil 2. It's called "Chasing Jill", and is earned by finding and reading a letter left behind by Jill. It doesn't exactly take a genius to work out that this is a reference to the hero of Resident Evil 3, right?

For those that aren't aware, Resident Evil 3 takes place around the same time as Resident Evil 2. The key difference is that Jill's adventure kicks off a full 24 hours before Leon and Claire's, meaning the Raccoon City outbreak is just getting started. By the time Leon arrives in Raccoon City, Jill has already seen some sh*t, let me tell you.

Presumably then, the letter that players will be able to find in Resident Evil 2 will provide a vague, spoiler-free account of Jill's adventures in the upcoming Resident Evil 3 remake. Just to tip another bucket of oil on the already out of control hype fire.

It's unclear where exactly in Resident Evil 2 we might find this mysterious letter, but it wouldn't be much fun if we knew exactly where to head now, would it?
