Anybody who knows anything about No Man's Sky will be aware of the meteoric redemption arc the game has undergone since its rather disastrous release back in 2016. Constant updates and patches from developer Hello Games has seen it become a real favourite among gamers the world over.
The latest of those updates, called Frontiers, will see procedurally generated settlements popping up on the game's near infinite planets. I may be alone here, but to me the whole thing gives a very Star Wars vibe that I am completely here for.

The update, which was teased some weeks ago by the devs, will be going live this month and certainly sounds like something sci-fi fans are going to be excited about. The press release reads, "With No Man's Sky we always wanted to let players step into the cover of a science fiction book, to explore an infinite universe. One aspect of that fantasy perhaps requested more than any other feature, is wandering across alien planets to find living, breathing Mos Eisley type settlements. This has never been possible until now."

Players will be given the choice to either observe these settlements and leave, or stay and help out the residents with their issues, perhaps even coming to lead them as an Overseer. If that decision pans out fortuitously, the settlement may even grow and expand under the players' tutelage.
Options like constructing new buildings, planning and executing defense strategies and more will be possible in Frontiers, and for those who perhaps haven't experienced the game following its negative launch, there's never been a better time to check it out - it really is almost unrecogniseable in its current state.
Alongside the settlements, Frontiers will also bring hundreds of new parts for base building, and Expedition 3, Cartographers. The event will start all players in the same space and have them heading forth into the unknown to map the stars and planets they find.
