As another year gets underway, so do the demands for the next instalment in the Call of Duty series. Developed by Sledgehammer Games, last year's Call of Duty: Vanguard wasn't quite the outing fans hoped for. In our review, Phil praised Vanguard's "innovative approach to multiplayer" but deemed that its zombie-mode "misses the mark completely, and forgets about its core audience".

Players still seem to hold Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in much higher regard. Released in 2019, the first-person shooter was an instant critical and commercial success, breaking several sales records and earning well over $1 billion in revenue. Unsurprisingly, publisher Activision confirmed that a sequel was in the works with a 2022 release date, but very few details were confirmed outside of this.

Most information about the game is still being kept under wraps but Call of Duty insider RalphsValve recently tweeted a countdown to 30 April 2022 which features a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare background. The user later tweeted claiming that a sequel to Modern Warfare would finally be revealed in May, meaning the countdown could possibly be to a small teaser for the game.

It's not the first time that RalphsValve has leaked details about the upcoming Call of Duty instalment. He previously claimed that the game would feature determinant decisions, psychological effects following distressing situations, and mark the return of Captain Price, Ghost, General Shepard, Soap and Roach.

Until these claims are officially confirmed, we have to take them with a pinch of salt but Ralph's claims do fit the expected timeline of a new Call of Duty game meeting a Q4 release, so set your countdowns folks.
