Splinter Cell fans have had a seriously rough go of it over the last several years. Ubisoft's once-great stealth franchise has, somewhat ironically, been relegated to the shadows. Aside from a few cameo appearances and spinoffs, it's been seven years since Sam Fisher crept his way through Splinter Cell: Blacklist back in 2013.
Recent years have seen Ubisoft make the occasional vague, noncommittal comment about a Splinter Cell revival, but nothing concrete. However, there is hope at last. Sam Fisher's Italian voice actor seems to have outright confirmed the existence of a brand new Splinter Cell game that's currently in development at Ubisoft.
Speaking to Multiplayer.it, actor Luca Ward claimed that this new Splinter Cell is a "conclusive episode". He added that it was supposed to launch this year, before COVID-19 impacted Ubisoft's release plans.

"There is this return of Splinter Cell that is supposed to be a conclusive episode, but I'm not sure about this part," said Ward. "They have not yet figured out whether to do it in 2021. It was going to release in 2020, and then COVID-19 happened, and several big projects in 2020 got delayed. Others went on, like Cyberpunk 2077 on which I have almost finished working. But I am sure that Splinter Cell will return, this is a fact."
Ubisoft already has a pretty full slate of games for the rest of this year and into 2021. Far Cry 6, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and Watch Dogs Legion are all set to have launched before February 2021. Is there room for a certain Sam Fisher to wiggle on in there, or will we have to wait until later on in 2021?

This, of course, is assuming that what Ward is saying is true. He seems very sure of himself, but it could very well be that he's done work on another spinoff or cameo appearance and simply gotten his wires crossed. Fisher previously showed up in Ghost Recon: Wildlands and is set to appear in Tom Clancy's Elite Squad, so Ubisoft is no stranger to wheeling the character out for the odd cameo.
With that said, it's worth noting that Ubisoft has another reveal event planned for later this year. Doubtless we'll see more of Far Cry 6, but I wouldn't bet against a few new reveals and surprises along the way. That's assuming they haven't leaked by then, obviously.
