Marvel has started to bulk up the cast of its upcoming Secret Invasion series with some seriously heavyweight talent. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Oscar-winning actor Olivia Colman (The Crown, The Favourite) would be joining the in-development Disney+ shows. It's now been confirmed that Game Of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is getting in on the action.

For those unfamiliar, Secret Invasion is an upcoming Disney+ show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and based on a 2009 comic book event of the same name. In the comics, Secret Invasion revealed that the Skrulls (shape-shifting aliens first seen in Captain Marvel) had infiltrated Earth and replaced many of the planet's heroes as part of an attempt to, well, invade.

The MCU has been teasing for a while that Skrulls have been living on Earth in secret, although unlike the comic book event, it seems their intentions are far less hostile. A post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Far Home Home reveals that one of alien race has been posing as Nick Fury while the real S.H.I.E.L.D leader is off on a mission in space. Similarly, a teaser at the end of WandaVision once again seemed to confirm the Skrulls were very much on the side of good.

The Secret Invasion series will be a major departure from the comic, then, but we're excited to see where it goes. Variety reports that Clarke has joined the cast in an undisclosed role, meaning she could be playing anyone from an entirely original character to a classic hero. I would say right now that Clarke would make an excellent Susan Storm, but I highly doubt Secret Invasion is where we'll meet the Fantastic Four for the first time.

Clarke and Colman are part of an incredible lineup of talent so far, which is an incredibly encouraging sign for the series. Samuel L. Jackson will once again return as Nick Fury, while Ben Mendelsohn will be reprising his role as the Skrull Talos. Teyonah Parris will also be bringing back Monica Rambeau, following her Westview adventures in WandaVision.

Given that Marvel has been teasing Secret Invasion since Spider-Man: Far From Home, this could be the biggest Disney+ series yet.
