Jim Carrey Wants To Make A New Ace Ventura, On One Bizarre Condition

Ace Ventura wasn't a smash hit with critics, but that didn't stop a sequel and a TV series being made.

Hankering after another Ace Ventura adventure? Hold onto your hat because actor Jim Carrey has said that he would be up for returning to one of his most iconic roles in his storied career. There's a caveat, though, as Carrey would only don the shades and Hawaiian shirt again if Christopher Nolan was on board.

Yes. The guy who directed Memento, The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar, Tenet and other movies that made you walk out of the cinema and say, "I think that was a good story. I think." Of course, the Ace Ventura series doesn't delve into concepts of morality, identity, and the theoretical aspects of time, not that I remember. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective follows the titular private detective who is ridiculed by the rest of the Miami Police Department for his strange affinity with animals and his low-stakes missions retrieving lost pets.

Carrey embodies the nefarious Dr Robotnik in the new Sonic movies to a "t" - check out our interview with the actor here!

In an interview with E! News, Carrey explained his professional conditions for returning to a role for a remake or reboot. "Unless some genius person, director, auteur comes to you with a completely new take on what's going on, you know. If Chris Nolan came to me and said 'I want to make Ace Ventura real and I want to do something, you know, something more interesting...' then I might listen."

"But for the most part, you know, after a certain time there's not one cell in your body that is that person anymore so you end up just imitating what you did in the old days and the original inspiration isn't there," he concluded. It's a sensible approach if you ask me, as it doesn't corrupt the memories of the original movie for fans... though the first Ace Ventura film wasn't a hit with the critics and features a totally unnecessary scene with a transgender woman.

Really though, we're not too sure what Carrey's career plan is at the moment. He's "fairly serious" about retiring soon, however if there is a project that's too good to be true, he'd hold off his departure from the limelight. "I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like, and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists, I have enough," he said. Moreover, Sonic 2 producers Neal Moritz and Toby Ascher affirmed that Dr Robotnik would never be recast in the series of movies.

"I have a feeling that he loves Robotnik so much that I don't think he'll be able to walk away from that," hinted Moritz. Well, I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
