It’s 2021 And ‘Left 4 Dead 2’ Has Only Just Fully Released In Germany

I'm pretty sure I should have been writing this news, like, 12 years ago right? There is something really weird about me writing about the release of zombie co-op game Left 4 Dead 2 all the way in 2021, but here we are and I can't quite believe it either.

So what's the deal, why is Left 4 Dead 2 only just getting a full release to German audiences? Well, it's because back when the game originally released in 2009, it wasn't considered appropriate and had to be altered to fit restrictions the German authorities placed on the game. All these years later, Valve has asked the same authorities to reconsider the decision so Left 4 Dead 2 could be enjoyed in all its gory glory by German audiences and this time around, they were happy for the full international version of the game to release in the territory.

According to Eurogamer, it wasn't only the Germans that were a little unhappy with the full version of the game - the Australian authorities also had an issue with the game's content. Australian audiences, however, got their hands on the full title back in 2014, so Germans are still the latest to party.

The update on Steam says, "Valve recently requested that German authorities re-evaluate the game Left 4 Dead 2. We are happy to let you know that as a result, the uncut international version of Left 4 Dead 2 is now available to our customers in Germany. Owners of the game in Germany can download this free DLC to update the game if you wish to do so." Neat.

This announcement comes after the spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead series has been announced and demoed. Back 4 Blood features the same basic idea as the L4D games, four survivors against a massive hoard, but brings the experience up to 2021's graphics standards.
