Heartwarming stuff.

The thought of losing treasured memories and possessions in a fire is something I'm sure most of us are genuinely terrified of. I know I've ran through the scenario in my head time and time again, silently working out what I'd run back in to save if I could only rescue one item from the blaze. And, you know, assuming my wife and cat had already escaped unscathed, obviously.

It's always heartbreaking to learn of fires that have ripped through homes, as even the smallest of them can cause untold damage to property and cherished items. Over on Reddit, pineapple_swag has shared how just such a fire affected them recently, tearing through their apartment complex in Upland, California.

The Los Angeles Times reports that 40 units in the complex were damaged, leaving many residents displaced, an "unknown number" of pets dead, and one firefighter injured. No residents were hurt, but pineapple_swag is just one of the many now attempting to pick up the pieces.

"My home caught fire and took my Xbox, Wii, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and all my handhelds," pineapple_swag wrote, attaching a picture of the damage. "Feels like new game plus."

pineapple_swag might feel like they're starting all over again, but a number of good Samaritans emerged in the comments with offers of support and encouragement.

"I have an Nvidia shield K1 tablet I could send you, free of charge," wrote KaptaynAmeryka. "Just needs to stay plugged in but it works! Even have a controller to go with it."

Another user by the name of BFArico reached out to offer their old PlayStation 4, while LuminousSound chimed in and added they could spare a PlayStation 2 that they were pretty sure they had in the basement. One user even offered to help chip in for a PlayStation 5. Another, an Xbox One. Even those without consoles to spare asked if there was somewhere they could donate.

pineapple_swag explained they couldn't share details of their GoFundMe on Reddit as it's a violation of the platforms terms, but encouraged well-wishers to DM them for details on how they might help.

It's unclear how many of these offers are genuinely sincere, of course. It's one thing for a stranger on the internet to reach out and offer to help, it's quite another to actually follow through. Still, if even half of the well-wishers intend to deliver on their promises, no doubt they'll play a huge role in helping to keep pineapple_swag's spirits lifted through an incredibly difficult time.
