'Fortnite' No-Building Mode To Become Permanent Following Positive Reaction

If you build it, they won't come

It's looking increasingly likely that Fortnite's surprise no-build mode is going to become a permanent fixture of the battle royale, according to a recent datamining efforts.

Epic Games announced that it was removing building - arguably the biggest and most distinct aspect of Fortnite - from the game as part of an update earlier this month. And the reaction so far has been... incredible, actually. Social media is awash with lapsed players who feel they've finally be able to come back to the game and enjoy it as a colourful shooter without having to worry about fighting people who are capable of building mighty towers and massive forts.

Take a look at the latest Fortnite chapter in action below!

The official word from Epic at the moment is that the lack of building is a limited-time deal, and that normal service will resume eventually. This is as it should be, of course. Like it or not, building is a part of Fortnite, and if that puts you off? It's just not the battle royale for you.

With that said, Epic Games surely can't ignore that the no-build mode has coaxed back in thousands of players and won plenty of acclaim. It's not like Fortnite was ever struggling, obviously, but why wouldn't you capitalise on something that clearly makes so many players happy?

Thanks to the efforts of leaker/dataminer TweaBR, it looks like no-build will remain in the game - but as an optional way to play alongside the classic Fortnite we all know and love/hate (delete as applicable).

There'll apparently be a total of four no-build modes: solo, duos, trio, and squads. Again, these will sit entirely separate to the modes that do feature building mechanics, meaning that players who just want to play Fortnite as a straight-up shooter can. Those who want to continue playing the game as it always has been can also do their thing. It turns out sometimes you can please everyone. Who knew?

Do take this with a small pinch of salt for now. While this evidence coupled with the positive reaction to the current no-build mode makes its permanent inclusion a no-brainer, Epic Games has yet to officially announce anything at this time. For now, then, enjoy no-build as it exists while you have it.
