Fortnite is a game that's forever reinventing itself. Every few months a new season comes out that adds new rules, tears down a fixture of the map and replaces it with a volcano, or a mall, or a time machine. But, in all of its evolutions, something has remained constant: you kill the heck out of other players.
Whether as a team or on your own, you're scouring the piñata-filled world looking for blood. But that won't be the case in the game's new mode: Liferun.

In Liferun, which will run in the game's Creative Mode, you'll be playing as an International Red Cross Worker racing to save lives, which puts an unusual spin on Epic's battle royale shooter. The mode will be properly debuted at PAX South, which runs from January 17 - January 19.
Streamers DrLupo, ONE_shot_GURL, and Lachlan will show off the mode in a live stream ahead of its full release on January 19.
The International Red Cross is a global organisation that works to protect and care for the victims of armed conflicts. That can mean wounded soldiers and prisoners, but also refugees, civilians, and other people who are caught up in a conflict. The Red Cross has been around for a long time, founded over 150 years ago, back in 1863. In that time they've endeavoured to be present wherever they've been needed.

An oddly convenient bit of trivia I learned the other day is that US veterans of World War 2 aren't that big a fan of the Red Cross, after the organisation charged for donuts at their aid stations. Oddly, this wasn't the Red Cross' decision but something that the US government requested that they did, because other Allied nations charged for food at their aid stations and they didn't want the free donuts to foster any bad blood between the different armies' troops.
