‘Elden Ring’ Has Already Been Ruined By Mods

Modders have unleashed chaos on Elden Ring with a mod that changes every enemy into something very different - Elmo is terrifying.

Elden Ring's popularity just doesn't seem to be ceasing, like, at all. Despite being out for a full month as of tomorrow, no one really seems to be talking about anything else. As of 14 March, the game had sold 12 million copies worldwide, eclipsing Dark Souls 3's lifetime sales of 10 million. Needless to say, yes, it's very popular.

Anyway, I'm here to report that things have clearly reached their peak, because we're finally at the point where we have ridiculous character mods running wild in the game. From Tarnished Homer as our benevolent, custard-yellow protagonist, to Shrek charging around on Donkey as a hilarious replacement of the Tree Sentinel, modders have unleashed complete chaos on the Lands Between. Or improved the game significantly, depending on how you view it.

Check out the Elden Ring character mod in all its glory below.

Honestly, this whole thing is far more amusing than it has any right to be. Shrek and Pepe the Frog modded into games where they clearly don't belong is such peak 2013 humour, and yet, it's still unreasonably funny to see even today. The amazing Homer impression running throughout the video also helps, though.

If you were on the lookout for a slightly less silly mod, be sure to check out this fan-made photo mode. Not only does it allow for unlimited camera movement both during gameplay and in cutscenes, but it also has an option to stop enemies from seeing you as a threat, so you can take all the selfies you could ever dream of without getting murdered as a result. Fun!

It probably goes without saying, but obviously these mods can only be used by PC players - console users will have to find their fun elsewhere. If you are playing on PC, by the way, the game's latest patch has swiftly put a stop to the game-breaking exploit that hackers were using to corrupt people's save files, so worry no longer if you'd been avoiding playing online.
