'Dying Light 2' Developer Says Game Is In 'Good Shape', Despite Recent reports

"The game is in good shape (and in good hands)"

Okay, so you know how Dying Light 2 sounds like this super ambitious game with a massive open world that shifts and changes based on your choices? And you know how we really haven't seen that much of the game in action, outside of one or two extended gameplay clips and a handful of trailers? And you know how it was pushed back from its "spring 2020" release window to an indefinite time?

Well... according to the latest rumblings, the game isn't doing so hot right now. Polish game development news site Polski Gamedev shared a damning report last night that paints an ugly picture of how development is going on the open world zombie parkour game. Despite this, developer Techland has insisted that Dying Light 2 is in "good shape".

Polski Gamedev spoke to a handful of unnamed Techland employees who spoke of "low morale", bosses who "have no idea what they're doing", crunch, and lots of uncertainty about what the game should be. In short, one employee appeared to call the project a "total mess".

However, Techland Senior PR manager Ola Sondej has since hit back to claim that the translation of the report (which was originally written in Polish) is "totally inaccurate". She added that development of Dying Light 2 is moving forward. "The game's in good shape (and in good hands)," she wrote. "So worry not. It IS coming."

Dying Light 2 was originally announced back at E3 2018, and details have come in a fairly steady drip since then. From what we've heard (and seen), Techland wants to build on the foundations of the first game by leaning more into RPG mechanics, while keeping the first-person parkour and zombie-slaying gameplay that we all love.

The developer has talked about the game featuring over 100 hours of gameplay, world-altering choices, and multiple playthroughs to see everything it has to offer. The game was delayed in January this year, with Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka stating the team needed more development time to fulfill its vision.

While I really, genuinely hope that Dying Light 2 is able to deliver on many of its promises, you have to wonder if the studio is starting to buckle under the pressure. Hopefully we learn more about the status of the game soon.
