After the messy release that plagued CD Projekt Red's new dystopian RPG Cyberpunk 2077, retailers have already started discounting the game. The reception of the title has been so mixed that Sony has taken it down from the PlayStation online store because of the way it performed on the PlayStation 4, while Xbox issued warnings to buyers on its service that performance may be variable. Now physical copies are being discounted too.
According to VGC, American retailers Best Buy was selling Cyberpunk 2077 in its stores for half price - originally $59.99 at launch, and then $29.99. After the original report from VGC, however, it has since risen up to $34.99 where it remains at time of writing. Walmart has also started discounting the game heavily, selling physical copies for $37.99 (originally $49.94) for the PlayStation 4.
Many games do eventually drop in price after they are first released, that's not an unusual circumstance - however for Cyberpunk 2077 to be marked as half price a month after launch isn't a normal circumstance at all. Assassin's Creed Valhalla, for example, is priced at $59.99 at BestBuy currently despite coming out at an earlier date.

The other comparison is Nintendo games, which hardly ever fall in price. What's known as "Nintendo tax" to some, means that a game like The Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild is still priced at $59.99 despite coming out back in 2017. So really, depending on the developer, discounts can range pretty vastly.
What is, at least comforting for CD Projekt Red, is that they had already covered the costs of the game from the incredible number of pre-orders the title received. They are, however, facing a class-action lawsuit or two at the moment, as well as pressure from the Polish Consumer Protection Agency to improve the quality of the game.
