'Cyberpunk 2077' Will Feature A Massive Number Of 'Handcrafted' Side Quests

We've got a lot of city to burn.

I think we all know at this point that Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be a pretty big game, don't we? I mean, the upcoming sci-fi open-world RPG has been in development for years now under CD Projekt RED, the studio that gave us the sprawling epic that is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

By all accounts, it sounds like CDPR has taken everything it learned from working on its 2015 fantasy hit, and put it towards going bigger and better in every way when it comes to Cyberpunk 2077. As we've already been told, there are more fun diversions to seek out in the game's open world, far more customisation options, and yes, even more nudity than we saw in The Witcher 3. Oh, and Keanu Reeves. He definitely wasn't in The Witcher 3, as far as I can tell.

It's safe to say that Cyberpunk 2077 will be positively groaning under the weight of its own content, then. If you weren't already convinced, however, CDPR recently shared a little more info on some of the many side quests that you'll be able to pursue while exploring Night City.

Following last year's promise that every quest in Cyberpunk 2077 would be "handcrafted", we now know what to expect from the game's intriguing-sounding Street Stories. These, according to CDPR, are a tier of side quest that are a little bit like Geralt's contracts in The Witcher 3, in that you find a notice somewhere in the world that will alert you to a character in need of help.

These missions, like the Witcher's contracts, will offer different experiences - and maybe even a few twists and surprises along the way. Completing them nets you street cred that boosts your reputation.

In a new interview with OnMSFT, CD Projekt's Krakow office studio head John Mamais confirmed there'll be roughly 75 Street Stories, which is pretty damn impressive. For comparison, there were 26 Witcher contracts in The Witcher 3, not counting the expansions.

"There's a couple of layers," Mamais explained of the varying quest types. "There's a passive layer, which is the vendors, then there's the STSs, which are the Street Stories. I think there's around 75 sStreet Stories. Then there's minor activities as well. The Street Stories are like little quests. There's story but there's not, like, advanced cinematic storytelling sequences so much. They're a way to explore the world and level-up your character."

"They're all custom done," he continued. "There's nothing like that that's automatically generated. There are set templates that the guys can use but each one is customised to make them feel unique. The world's going to be filled with that stuff. It should feel really good."

Cyberpunk 2077 will now release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 17th. The game was supposed to release this April, but was pushed back last month when CDPR confirmed that, while the game is technically finished and playable, there's still "work to be done". This, apparently, is in regards to polishing it and making sure everything runs as it should. And yes, this will take a degree of crunch - which you can learn about in our tl;dr video below.
