One of the senior staff members on Cyberpunk 2077 has left CD Projekt RED to assist Playground Games on its upcoming Fable reboot.

Paweł Kapała worked at CDPR for over six years, according to his LinkedIn profile (via Game Rant). He started off at the company as an intern, and helped design and implement boss fights in the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. He ultimately worked his way up during development of the fantasy RPG and its expansions, assisting with certain encounters, enemy AI, the fist-fighting minigames, and a multitude of other things.

Kapala then moved onto Cyberpunk 2077 as a senior gameplay designer. Here, he designed and implemented the melee and firearms combat systems into the game while working across various departments to ensure a cohesive vision for combat. To be fair, combat in Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the few things that worked well at launch.

Kapała's LinkedIn now confirms his new role at Playground Games as a principal gameplay designer will be very similar to what he was doing on Cyberpunk 2077.

While Kapala doesn't give much away, his updated LinkedIn profile does confirm he'll be designing and implementing various combat systems in Fable. It's unclear how much - if any - of the new Fable's combat has already been designed, but Kapala's hiring would suggest not much... which would in turn once again imply that Fable is a long way out from releasing.

At present, all we've really seen of the new Fable is one very brief CG trailer. Exactly what the game will be like or how much of a departure from the original Lionhead games it ends up being remains to be seen.

There have been whispers that the new Fable will have first and third-person combat, or at least give players the option to switch between the two. While this is entirely unconfirmed, Kapala's experience on both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 would make him a smart fit for the team. Watch this space.
